Prof. Dr. Vato Gruev,

Distinguished Science Worker

Founder of and First Chairman of Union of Scientists, Stara Zagora

Prof. Dr. Vato Gruev was born on Dec 18, 1915 in Shishentsi, Vidin District. He graduated from the Boy High school in Vidin in 1935, Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry in Sofia (1943), with major in Agriculture and Animal Breeding. He was Assistant Professor in “Farm Animal Breeding” Department, Faculty of Agronomy and Animal Breeding at Plovdiv University Paisii of Hilendar (1945-1947), part-time Associate Professor in the same department, and a full-time Associate Professor at the Higher Institute of Agriculture “Vassil Kolarov” in Plovdiv, full Professor since 1960, Deputy Provost of Faculty of Agriculture at the Higher Institute of Agriculture “Vassil Kolarov” in Plovdiv (1953-1958), Vice-President of the Higher Institute of Agriculture “Vassil Kolarov” in Plovdiv (1964-1966 г), assistant to “Higher Education” Department at КNТPVО (1966-1974 ).

He was Professor in “Animal Breeding” Department at the Higher Institute for Animal Engineering and Veterinary Medicine in Stara Zagora (1974), Vice-President of Academy of Agriculture “Georgi Dimitrov” in Sofia (1974-1976), President of the Higher Institute for Animal Engineering and Veterinary Medicine in Stara Zagora (1974-1984).

Member of Higher Attestation Commission, Central Council of National Agriculture and Industrial Councils, Higher Council in Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Central governing board of Union of Scientific Workers, Sofia (1963-1968), as well as member of National Technical and Science Council in Sofia, Academic Board of the Institute of Agricultural Studies in Kostinbrod, Research Institute in Cattle and Sheep Breeding, Stara Zagora, Animal Breeding Council at the Higher Institute for Animal Engineering and Veterinary Medicine in Stara Zagor, etc. Chairman of the Academic Board and Academic Research Teams on the studies of brown cattle at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and also a chairman of the Stara Zagora branch of the Union of Scientific Workers (1963-1968).

Area of Study – Regularity in growth of various breeds of farm animals, correlation between main animal qualities, regularities in the functioning of the milk gland and lactation, organization and economics of farm animals, animal structure by type of animal, prognoses for solving it in various ecological areas across the country, problems in university curricula and curricula for special disciplines.

Articles and Publications: a total number of articles - 163, these include 53 study articles, 110 research articles. Honoured with a great number of medals and wards, Distinguished Science Worker.

Member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria since 1944.
